1-on-1 with Commanders new quarterback, Jayden Daniels

The former LSU quarterback trades in his purple and gold for burgundy and gold

WASHINGTON — The Commanders have found their new quarterback and his name is Jayden Daniels

Daniels was selected as the second overall draft pick Thursday night.

The quarterback position in Washington has been the picture of instability for years, and when asked what he could bring to the burgundy and gold Daniels said "I'ma work extremely hard, I'ma compete each and every day, and I wanna be the best version of myself each and every day."

Daniels had long been rumored to be heading to the Commanders before being drafted, and he mused about their coaching staff.

"I know them as football coaches but just to get to know them as a person, as a family man, as a god-fearing man, I'm excited," Daniels said in Detroit Thursday after he got the news.

The QB arrived in D.C. Friday, and was immediately ushered to his first press conference.

"It still hasn't hit me yet," he said, talking about how it feels to have a childhood dream come true. "But nothing is a given. I'ts not a given I'm a starter week one. I have to earn the respect of my teammates."

In the first one-on-one interview with Daniels in Ashburn Friday, he reiterated that he is "somebody that does whatever it takes to win football games, whatever role I'm in."

"People are going to have expectations, opinions of you" Daniels said. "Whether you do good or you do bad, at the end of the day, its about your team, it's about your inner circle, and it's about the work that you put in day in and day out."

For now, Daniels said he wants to focus on connecting with his new teammates and learning the playbook.
