PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles open the 2024 season with a showdown against the Green Bay Packers next Friday in Brazil -- the first-ever NFL game in South America.
On Friday, the Birds gave fans a sneak peek at their uniform combo for the big game.
In what the team says is a look "you've never seen before," the Eagles said they will wear their black alternate helmets, white road jerseys and black game pants.
The Packers will wear their home green jerseys and yellow pants, even though Philadelphia is technically the home team in this neutral-site matchup in São Paulo.
The Eagles said next Friday's game, which will be streamed on Peacock, "will mark the first time that (they) mix in the black helmets and white sox to go along with white jerseys and black pants."
In doing so, the Birds are taking advantage of the NFL's recently adjusted policy on alternate uniforms, which now allows teams to integrate a third helmet into their uniform combinations.
The Eagles debuted the black helmets in the 2022 season, but they were shelved as the '90s-era Kelly Green uniforms returned to much fanfare last season.
Now, the Eagles can wear helmets to complement both of their alternate uniforms, along with the standard Midnight Green helmet. They'll bring back their Kelly Green look in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and in Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to an announcement owner Jeffrey Lurie made earlier this summer.
