Washington Commanders ‘not where we need to be’ yet says coach Dan Quinn, but ‘we’re gonna get f-ing better’

The Washington Commanders didn’t get the results they wanted on Sunday and the head coach says it is all part of the journey to finding themselves.

ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders fell to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday in Week Six and even though there are good things to pull from the game, the record stands at four wins and two losses, and no room for moral victories.

That’s just the truth of it, and on ‘Tell the Truth Monday’ head coach Dan Quinn emphasized that the facts of the game are more important to long-term success than the silver linings we on the outside might pull from it.

“The truth was we’re not where we need to be there yet,” Quinn told WUSA9’s Chick Hernandez in his weekly sitdown at the team headquarters. “And you need to go through those fights and learn from them. And I want us to be really comfortable in these close games.”

The best teams in the NFL know how to dig out those close games. The Ravens have been a team that’s been good at doing so for years now. A fact that helps earn them a lot of respect around the league.

Quinn knows that for Washington to become one of those in the same realm as Baltimore, there’s an extra something his team has to learn to find. And his aim is for this weekend’s loss to be a catalyst for learning how to do just that.

“You have to be able to find that gear in those matchups,” says Quinn. “It didn’t come out like we want and there’s frustration and confusion and anger and all that. But the words I did hear in the locker room was, ‘Man we’re gonna get f-ing better from this. So that’s how I knew that they are hearing what we’re saying.”

Quinn’s Commanders are going to take the next week to learn from their mistakes that cost them a one-score game against one of the NFL’s best - and look to unleash those lessons against the Carolina Panthers inside Northwest Stadium next Sunday afternoon.
