ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders season gets started next weekend in Tampa, but the team wasn’t done tweaking its roster before kickoff. On Thursday morning, the team announced the addition of wide receiver Noah Brown who was cut by the Texans this week.
The 28-year-old is in his eighth year and third different team. In 2023, Brown had a career-high 567 receiving yards and averaged over 17 yards per catch.
"I’m a very valuable pass option. I can block in the blocking game, have experience in the special teams game and I’m willing to do all of it," said Brown. "I’m just ready to contribute.”
"This is a dog-ass competitor. He is a really physical player," said Commanders head coach Dan Quinn. "He’s got a great background both as a receiver and on teams, he’s a fantastic teammate so when we had the ability to add him to this group, it was a very easy decision from the coaching side."
Jayden Daniels and Brown got some extra one-on-one work in after Thursday’s practice. Something Dan Quinn says was his rookie quarterback’s idea.
“As a coach, it makes you happy, Jayden came up to me and asked, can I take Noah? That’s exactly what you want to hear from a player," said Quinn. "Why would we wait until Monday when I can start on this today?”
“I had a whole training camp with the other guys, and he just came so talking through stuff and trying to get him up to speed as quickly as possible," said Daniels.
Expectations for Daniels are high, and his NFL debut is getting closer, but the rookie has no problem keeping things in perspective.
“At the end of the day it takes a team to help people out," said Daniels. "I can’t go out there and think I’m the savior and everything. When the plays are out there to be made, make the plays.”
The Commanders now have a three-day break. Quinn is encouraging everyone to take a step away from football after a long Training Camp, which is easier said than done for some.
"Quite possibly. I mean you can’t really take away football," said Daniels. "I don’t know, we’ll see.”
The team will be back to practice Monday.
