Terry McLaurin looks for growth in 6th season with Washington Commanders

"Scary Terry" says there is work to do in Commanders minicamp.

ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders opened mandatory minicamp with all players reporting for duty on Tuesday. One of the players the team will lean heavily on among all the new faces — including No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels — is wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

Now a veteran, McLaurin is entering his sixth year in the NFL. While he is the only Washington receiver in the history of the franchise to rack up four straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, McLaurin said there is still room for improvement.

"Run after the catch is just one of the things in my game I feel like is OK," McLaurin said. "I feel like I could take another step."

He said he hopes to put himself in positions during minicamp to grow in that regard.

"Not just being OK. Taking the ball and running straight for 10 yards... trying to size up a DB when you get down the field, trying to use a stiff arm... putting yourself in those live type of situations to be prepared for the game," he said

The rookie quarterback Daniels took the field on Tuesday as well, leading the team in 11-on-11 play on day one. It's an important next step as Daniels works toward becoming a starter in the NFL.

Head Coach Dan Quinn explained what's expected of Daniels during minicamp.

"The expectation is just to see how familiar he is with the concepts, making sure, 'OK, this one we want to keep, this one we don't.' Things he has the most comfort with. Just really running the system now," Quinn said.

We're expecting to hear more from Daniels on Wednesday.
