WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals announced former player Stephen Peat has passed away. He was 44 years old.
On Thursday, the team took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their condolences to Pete's family and friends.
According to the NHL Alumni's X page, the former forward was in an accident two weeks ago, but did not specify what kind of accident. He succumbed to his injuries and passed away Thursday.
Peat was drafted 32nd overall to the Anaheim Ducks at the ripe age of 18 in 1998. He was then traded to the Caps just two years later, where he played 130 regular season games. Peat ended his pro career in 2006-2007 season.
