Lancaster County native Casey Kaufhold has captured her first Olympic medal.
The Smoketown native teamed with partner Brady Ellison to win the Archery Mixed Team bronze medal this morning, defeating India's Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara.
Kaufhold's final shot clinched a medal for the U.S. duo, which won the match 6-2.
Earlier Friday, Kaufhold and Ellison won two other matches to earn a shot at the bronze medal. They defeated Uzbekistan 6-2 in the first round and knocked off Japan 5-3 in the quarterfinals before falling 5-3 to Germany in the semifinals.
The bronze medal is Kaufhold's first at the Olympics, though she has won numerous other medals and accolades around the world, including women's individual and team gold medals at the 2024 Pan American Championships in Medellin, Colombia.
A native of Smoketown, Kaufhold is in her second Olympics after making the Tokyo Games in 2021. She is the No. 1-ranked recurved bow women's archer in the world.
On Thursday, Kaufhold finished fourth in the individual archery competition in Paris.
Ellison, who trains with Kaufhold at the Lancaster Archery Academy, is still active in the men's individual competition and will compete in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
