LANCASTER, Pa. — The room was filled at the East Lampeter Township offices to meet and greet Lancaster County native and Olympic archer Casey Kaufhold. She and the rest of the Olympic team embraced the community with autographs, pictures and plenty of good luck wishes before they headed to Paris.
"I wasn’t expecting something like this," said Kaufhold. "It was great and so nice to meet a bunch of familiar faces that I hadn’t seen in a long time that came out to this event."
This will be Kaufhold's second time competing in the Olympic games. The 20-year-old is currently ranked as the number one archer in the world and is excited to get the full Olympic experience.
"It’s going to be such a different experience than I had in Tokoyo since we can have spectators and watch other sports," said Kaufhold. "I'm really excited to have my family from Lancaster going to watch."
The Olympic stage only comes around every four years, and it's a win that the community can share with her.
"I hope to be an inspiration to the adults and kids," said Kaufhold. "I hope to get them into any sport and want them to achieve their highest potential."
The Olympics featuring Kaufhold and the rest of the US team begins on July 28.
