ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Following a nearly 40-year career at the helm of Elizabethtown College's men's soccer team, Arthur, better known as "Skip," Roderick has called it a career.
The legendary Blue Jays coach boasts a 573-181-78 career record--good for sixth best in NCAA men's soccer--and a history of appearing in the NCAA's Division III tournament. Not only does this record indicate a winning culture established by Roderick, so too does his playoff consistency and numerous career-defining moments.
From leading the 900th program win to a 1989 National Championship, Roderick's winning ways span every bit of the 39 years he was head coach.
When he took over for former Blue Jays coach Owen Wright, Roderick went right to work, racking up 121 wins in six years alongside two Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) championships to put under his belt.
Reaching the Division III tournament 19 times is no small feat, and compiling 14 straight appearances is even more impressive.
"Skip has set an unmatched standard of excellence for student-athletes at Elizabethtown College," Elizabethtown College president Betty Rider said in a press release.
Not only did Roderick lead an illustrious coaching career for his alma mater, he also once wore the cleats for the Blue Jays. In the 1970s, Roderick snatched All-Star honors in the MAC three times as well as in the All-East in his final year of playing.
Roderick looks forward to his retirement with open arms and an itch to travel and spend time with friends and family.
His legacy will not be forgotten at Elizabethtown College and across the NCAA.
