YORK, Pa. — What a crazy but exciting end to the work week when schedule releases for two series drop.
But first, ground broke on Thursday for the redesign of the track behind BAPS Motor Speedway. The new micro track will be named McGrewBid Motoplex. The track has five-year naming rights with McGrew Equipment's online auction platform. As we continue to see tracks close, this is the first track built in Central Pennsylvania in over 30 years.
The McGrewBid Motoplex will have progressive banked corners on a 1/5 mile oval configuration. Track owner Scott Gobrecht says they will have a three-division self-start program. Hyper Racing will be the title sponsor for the 600 winged, 600 wingless and JR sprints. BAPS isn't wasting any time. They plan to open the new track next year, in May 2024.
World of Outlaws
On Thursday, The World of Outlaws released their 2024 schedule that includes 86 nights, 41 tracks in 19 different states, with a few notable points for Central Pennsylvania.
For the first time in 32 years, the Outlaws will make a stop at Selinsgrove, but they aren't just racing one night. It's a double-header, Friday and Saturday event on Oct. 11 and 12. The last time the Outlaws raced at the track, Todd Shaffer drove Gary Turnbaugh's No. 11 to his only series win on June 1, 1991.
For the second year in a row, they will make another Wednesday night pitstop at Baps and also one at Lincoln Speedway in May.
The shocker, Port Royal will not have a single Outlaw race next year, but they will have some exciting dates with the High Limit Series.
High Limit
The next day, on Friday, the High Limit Series released its schedule that includes 60 races at 36 tracks and in 19 different states.
On Memorial Day weekend, they'll be at the Speed Palace for the Bob Weikert Memorial on Saturday and Sunday, before heading to Grandview Speedway on Tuesday, May 28.
They will race three dates at Lernerville and all three nights racing at the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal. The high paydays are on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. This gives teams the option to, once again, travel for the Midweek Money Series, separate from the other racing dates.
There are still three dates that are to be determined.
So far, three drivers have committed to be a high roller in 2024, and that includes Shark Racing's Jacob Allen.
The shark announced on Thursday he was not racing with the Outlaws and was committing to the High Limit Series. Allen just concluded his 10th season on tour with the Outlaws. He joins Brad Sweet and Kasey Kahne as the confirmed drivers, with Rico Abreu posting on Sunday that he has his poker face. So, I'm sure we'll be hearing his plans in the near future after that post.
