Keeping downtown York clean and green

Amid bustling city life, Juan Gomez and his team at ABM Clean and Green are on a mission to keep the streets of downtown York clean and presentable.

YORK, Pa. — Amid bustling city life, Juan Gomez and his team at ABM Clean and Green Team are on a mission to keep the streets of downtown York clean and presentable. Their dedication to this challenge has not gone unnoticed, as they tirelessly work to maintain the natural beauty of the area.

The team, consisting of Juan and four coworkers, has been hard at work for the past nine months. They have already collected an impressive 6,300 pounds of trash, equivalent to more than three tons.

Acknowledging the city's vibrant events like first Fridays on Beaver Street and George Street dining, they are constantly working against the odds to ensure that the streets remain pristine.

Juan Gomez, when asked about the challenges they face, expressed concerns about the amount of plastic waste and the importance of recycling and preventing littering. The team is dedicated not only to cleaning up trash but also to eliminating overgrown plants and any distractions from the natural beauty of downtown York.

Bronley Martin, the Urban Revitalization Manager at York County Economic Alliance, praised the team for their efforts in maintaining a clean and inviting environment for residents and visitors.

"Free of weeds, graffiti, anything that would take away from a nice experience and a nice weekend Friday night in downtown York, these guys do a great job," said Martin.

Juan Gomez emphasized the rewarding nature of his job, expressing happiness in seeing the area looking great and receiving positive feedback from the community. He also said that their work is not just for themselves but for everyone in downtown York and urged the public to join them by disposing of trash properly.
