State Police identify 2 killed in crash on I-81

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. — A section of a major central Pennsylvania highway was closed for hours this morning due to a deadly crash.

Interstate 81 southbound was closed at mile marker 5.8 in Antrim Township, Franklin County, according to troopers. The crash occurred at 1:54 a.m. on Aug. 21 and involved a single vehicle, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.

Troopers say the crash occurred when a black 2012 Infiniti G37 lost control for an unknown reason. The car hit the guidewire to the left of I-81 southbound and rolled an unknown number of times before coming to a stop on its roof, facing north between both southbound lanes of travel.

Four people were ejected from the vehicle during the crash, according to PennDOT. Two were life flighted to hospitals and two were pronounced dead at the scene. 

State Police identified the deceased as Diamonte Drequan Disney, 25, and Tiheen Justice Nathaniel Matthews, 20, both of Hagerstown, Maryland.

No arrests have been made in connection to the crash.

The road was closed for approximately five hours while crews worked.

The investigation is ongoing.
