LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. — A crash involving three tractor-trailers has claimed the life of one person, according to PennDOT.

It happened at 4:15 a.m. on Saturday at mile marker 87.5 in Union Township. Exit 85 on Interstate 81 northbound was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the area.

Pennsylvania State Police say the crash occurred when a tractor trailer drove off the right lane of the highway and struck the rear of another tractor trailer that was legally parked on the shoulder. The impact caused the front seat passenger of the tractor trailer that left the highway to break through the windshield.

After hitting the second tractor trailer, the back end of the first tractor trailer swung into the left lane of I-81, where it was struck by a third tractor trailer. State Police say the drivers of both of those vehicles were taken to the hospital for treatment of suspected injuries.

The Lebanon County Coroner pronounced the passenger who was ejected through the windshield, identified as Adrian Jemmott, 31, of Trenton, New Jersey, dead at the scene.

The driver of the second tractor trailer parked on the shoulder of I-81 was not in their vehicle at the time of the crash and was not injured.

It's unclear what the tractor trailers were hauling.
