DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on Wednesday announced that work on a 2.5-mile safety improvement project on Derry Street in Harrisburg, Paxtang, and Swatara Township is scheduled to begin next week.
The $2.6 million project consists of milling, paving, base replacement, signage, pavement markings, ADA-compatible ramps, pedestrian facility improvement at the 19th and 21st Street intersections and other miscellaneous work, PennDOT said. The work area is along Derry Street, from 13th Street in Harrisburg to Rosewood Lane in Swatara Township.
Work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 28, weather permitting, PennDOT said.
JVI Group, the contractor for the project, will begin constructing ADA ramps during daylight hours on Tuesday, according to PennDOT. Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal during this phase of the project.
Milling and paving work on Derry Street is expected to begin around Labor Day, according to PennDOT. The work will be performed at night, with lane restrictions and flagging in place, as needed.
Motorists are advised to be alert and to drive with caution through the work zone.
