YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Fairview Township officials are warning motorists of a detour that will take effect later this month and impact traffic in the north end of the township.
The Interstate 83 northbound exit ramp at Lewisberry Road (Exit 39A) will be closed for about a month. Traffic will be detoured to the Limekiln Road exit (Exit 40A) to get around this closure, the Fairview Township Police Department said.
Officers say that while traffic will be directed back to I-83 south and off at the southbound Lewisberry Road exit, past experience suggests that a large number of vehicles will use Limekiln Road to get where they are going instead of the posted detour.
Officials recommend that those who live and travel through this area should be prepared for significant traffic congestion on Limekiln Road in the area of the hotels and eastbound through to the Poplar Road/Lewisberry Road intersection.
The police department says it is working with the contractor of the project and PennDOT to take steps ensuring tractor-trailers heading to the Department of Defense Distribution Center do not travel east on Limekiln Road.
The detour will take effect the week of July 21 and last for approximately 30 days, according to the FTPD.
