LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — One person was critically injured in a Lancaster County multi-vehicle crash.
According to the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department (NLCRPD), on Jan. 2 at 5:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to a crash at the intersection of Lititz Pike (SR501) and Millport Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, driven by an 80-year-old man, had been traveling southbound and initiated a left-hand turn, eastbound onto Millport Road.
In doing so, the car traveled into the oncoming path of a 2011 Kia Optima, driven by a 27-year-old from Lancaster, traveling northbound on Lititz Pike.
After the crash, a third car, a 2020 Ford F-150 pick-up truck was struck as a result of the initial collision.
The 80-year-old reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for emergency evaluation and treatment.
The driver of the Optima was suspected to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. A follow-up investigation for the suspicion of DUI and its relevance to the crash is being conducted.
The driver of the F-150 truck did not report any injuries.
