PennDOT reports highways have reopened after multiple crashes

PennDOT believes a flash freeze contributed to multiple crashes in Dauphin County on Tuesday morning.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Update, 9:12 a.m.: All incidents have been cleared and all lanes on the affected highways are back open, according to PennDOT.

Previously: PennDOT is reporting that multiple highways are closed or experiencing lane restrictions due to crashes this morning.

A spokesperson says the agency started recieving crash calls shortly after 6 a.m., when they believe a flash freeze occurred. Bridges and overpasses are first to freeze.

Interstate 81 south at the ramp to I-83 south is closed for a multi-vehicle crash.

Route 322 on the Clark’s Ferry bridge is down to one lane in each direction due to multi-vehicle crashes. PennDOT reports there were some injuries in the eastbound lanes, but the extent or number of these injuries is unclear. 

Peters Mountain Road is also closed over the mountain.

PennDOT says salt trucks are at the scene, but there is no estimate on how long traffic will be delayed for any of these incidents.
