Work on recently hit Queen Street Bridge causes lane restriction on I-83 in York County

PennDOT says the right lane of the southbound I-83 approach to Queen Street is expected to be closed until midafternoon on Dec. 21.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Editor's note: The above video is from Dec. 20.

Repair work on the Queen Street Bridge, which yesterday was hit for the third time in nearly two years, will impact traffic on Interstate 83 in York County today.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says the right lane of the southbound I-83 approach to Queen Street is expected to be closed until midafternoon on Dec. 21.

The restriction will allow York County maintenance crews to grind out gouges left on the bridge as a result of a dump truck hauling large pieces of scrap metal striking it on Dec. 20. The grinding is a precautionary measure to prevent future cracking or corrosion on the beam.

This is the third time the Queen Street Bridge has been hit since February 2022, when a truck carrying an oversized load collided with the bridge. Six months later, a dump truck that had its bed raised struck the overpass again.

PennDOT reminds motorists to be alert and watch for stopped or slow-moving traffic.
