DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — It’s always important to be mindful of how you drive on the road.
In 2022, PennDOT reported nearly 27,000 speeding-related crashes in Pennsylvania resulting in more than 400 deaths.
And right now, several local police departments are cracking down on aggressive driving through PennDOT’s “Aggressive Driving Enforcement” initiative.
Swatara Township Police Department is one of the many police departments taking part in this statewide wave to reduce aggressive driving.
The grant-funded initiative will take place now through Nov. 10, which means you’ll see more officers monitoring high-traffic areas that see a high number of crashes due to aggressive driving.
This additional traffic enforcement will focus on things like the “Move Over Law,” school bus passing violations, speeding and even following too closely.
“We want to make sure that everybody is abiding by the rules of the road. That way we can reduce the number of crashes and hopefully save lives,” said Lt. David Milsteen of the Swatara Township Police Department.
“Just be patient," he continued. "You know, respect other drivers on the road. Everybody has somewhere to get to, and we'd like to see everybody get there safely.”
Those who do get pulled over for displaying aggressive driving behaviors will get a ticket.
Officers say the objective is to get people to think before driving aggressively.
