Roadwork reminder: 29th Street Bridge over I-83 near Harrisburg to be closed until November of 2025

The closure will start Monday, July 8 with many detours to be expected.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is reminding travelers the 29th Street bridge over Interstate 83 near Harrisburg will be closed starting July 8.

The closure is part of the East Shore Section 3 of the larger I-83 Capital Beltway Project and is expected to be completed on November 12, 2025.

The $154,627,000 project conducted by New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise of PA, will include widening and reconstructing portions of the I-83 roadway, construction of overhead bridges at 29th Street and 19th Street, construction of the new Cameron Street Interchange, removing the 13th Street interchange and roadway improvements along the Cameron Street, 19th Street and 29th Street corridors.

Truck, car and pedestrian detours will be in place during this long-term closure. 

Cars will use Derry Street, 19th Street and Paxton Street.
