LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A deadly crash closed the westbound lanes of part of Route 283 in Lancaster County for several hours overnight, according to the East Hempfield Township Police Department.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 on Route 283 near the exit for Route 741: East Petersburg/Millersville, officials said.
Police say the crash involved an SUV and a tractor-trailer. A 2025 BMW X5 was driving west on Route 283 when it struck the back of a tractor-trailer, causing the front-seat passenger to be thrown from the vehicle into the eastbound lanes of travel. Karra Clevenger, 33, from Middletown, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Clevenger's cause of death was determined to be multiple traumatic injuries and her manner of death was ruled accidental.
The driver of the BMW sustained minor injuries, and the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, police said.
Route 283 was closed between Exit: PA 722 - Landisville and Exit: PA 741 - East Petersburg/Millersville for about six hours, police said.
