Police investigating death on Route 30

Officers say that by the time they arrived at the scene, the woman had fallen onto the highway and been struck by several cars.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A section of U.S. 30 in Lancaster County has reopened after being closed for hours this morning.

The Manheim Township Police Department has identified the woman involved in the incident but will not be releasing her identity at this time. 

Police responded to the New Holland Pike bridge over U.S. 30 shortly after 5:30 a.m. for reports of a woman sitting on the side wall of the bridge. Officers say that by the time they arrived, the woman had fallen onto the highway and been struck by several cars.

All lanes of Route 30 eastbound were closed at Exit: PA 23 East - New Holland Ave/Pike until approximately 9 a.m.

The Lancaster County Coroner's Office says the woman's cause and manner of death are pending.

The MTPD asks anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident, witnessed a woman walking on or near New Holland Pike or possesses any information that could be useful to call investigators at 717-569-6401 or email police@manheimtownshippolice.org.
