Lancaster County hit-and-run kills pedestrian on Route 30

The vehicle hit a man in the eastbound lanes of Route 30 and then fled the scene, according to the East Lampeter Township Police Department.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A section of a major Lancaster County highway has reopened after first responders and the coroner investigated a crash that involved a pedestrian.

The crash occurred around 4:10 a.m. on Aug. 29 in the 2200 block of Lincoln Highway East (Route 30), police said. The vehicle hit a man in the eastbound lanes of Route 30 and then fled the scene, according to the East Lampeter Township Police Department.

The Lancaster County Coroner's Office identified the struck pedestrian as John Zimmerman, 72, of Lancaster. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the ELTPD said. The coroner ruled his cause of death multiple traumatic injuries; the manner of death is pending further investigation. An autopsy was performed.

Route 30 was closed between Exit: PA 340 - Old Philadelphia Pike and Whitmer Road/Pleasant Drive in East Lampeter Township for several hours this morning.
