PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Pennsylvania State Police released their annual Christmas holiday crash and enforcement report on Tuesday, which included 198 arrests of people who drove under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
From Dec. 23-25, PSP investigated 404 crashes, where three individuals died and 70 others were injured; police stated that alcohol was a factor in 36 of the crashes.
Troopers additionally issued:
- 1,036 speeding tickets.
- 123 citations for failing to wear a seatbelt.
- 22 citations for not securing children in safety seats.
The numbers, while still high, are somewhat lower than 2022's report showed. Last year's Christmas weekend resulted in 661 crashes, 5 of which were fatal, and 116 DUI arrests.
With New Year's Eve celebrations coming up, State Police will once again be on the lookout for impaired, aggressive and distracted drivers. PSP reminds everyone to organize a safe ride home, especially if upcoming plans involve alcohol.
