LANCASTER, Pa. — More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the U.S. Women's Open this weekend at Lancaster Country Club in Manheim Township.
Which means… traffic and road closures.
Luckily, the United States Golf Association (USGA) worked together with Manheim Township and East Lampeter Township police departments for a parking and traffic plan.
The eastbound lane of New Holland Pike between Route 30 will be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the tournament, which lasts until Sunday.
People are encouraged to adjust their travel routes around peak tournament arrival and departure times from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Officials remind people that shuttle and vehicle traffic are expected to be heavy along the primary routes in and around the area during these times.
Local officials say they have improved the traffic plan since the tournament last appeared in Lancaster County back in 2015.
"This time it's going to be better; we're tweaking it," said Sergeant Barry Waltz of the Manheim Township Police Department. "Fixing where we saw some failures nine years ago, so hopefully everything's gonna go super smooth."
Officials offered examples of roads people should keep an eye on for traffic and delays. These include:
- Eden Road
- Millcross Road
- Butter Road
- New Holland Pike: West of Rt. 30 interchange and east of Eden Road
- Kissel Hill Road
- Landis Valley Road
