Amtrak to begin phase three of Harrisburg line track renewal project

The $122 million maintenance project is to improve 1950s-era rail infrastructure between Harrisburg and Lancaster Counties.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Amtrak announced it will move into phase three of its Harrisburg line track renewal project starting Monday, June 10.

This will cause schedule changes for some Keystone Service trains that could range from 5-30 minutes on weekdays and 5-35 minutes on weekends.

Here is the updated schedule from Amtrak:

Monday - Thursday

  • No changes to the truncated trains: 646, 648, 650, 652; 607, 641, 643, 645
  • Will operate the same schedule as today: 640; 657
  • Minor departure/arrival adjustments: 600, 642; 609, 651, 653, 655
  • Schedule adjustments of 10 minutes or more: 644, 654, 656, 618, 620, 622, 601, 605, 647, 649

Friday

  • Will operate the same schedule as today: 640, 646; 609, 655, 657
  • Minor departure/arrival adjustments: 600, 607, 641, 643, 651, 653
  • Schedule adjustments of 10 minutes or more: 642, 644, 648, 650, 652, 654, 656, 658, 620, 624, 601, 605, 645, 647, 649

Saturday – Sunday

  • Will operate the same schedule as today: 666, 672, 674, 610; 663, 665, 615, 667, 669, 671
  • Minor departure/arrival adjustments: 660, 662
  • Schedule adjustments of 10 minutes or more: 664, 670, 612: 661, 611, 661

Pennsylvanian train schedules will remain unaffected.

The $122 million maintenance project is to improve 1950s-era rail infrastructure between Harrisburg and Lancaster. 

The project, which began on March 19, 2024, was originally estimated to take two years. It is currently expected to finish in November 2024. 

“We’re taking a fresh approach and expediting this important project with a combination of single and full track outages that will improve work efficiencies and reduce the duration of customer impacts,” said executive vice president of capital delivery Laura Mason.
