Keystone Line trains between Harrisburg and Lancaster temporarily replaced by buses as track work begins

The train service will not run between Lancaster and Harrisburg from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Amtrak Keystone Line between Harrisburg and Lancaster will not run beginning Monday through the week before Thanksgiving as a major refurbishment of the tracks is underway.

The $122 million project will see the line close between those stops from Monday, April 8 to Thursday, Nov. 21, Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Delays on Fridays and weekends will vary, according to Amtrak officials.

Buses will replace trains during those periods, with four buses traveling from Lancaster to Harrisburg and three from Harrisburg to Lancaster.

One train on the Pennsylvanian Line from each direction will operate daily during the delay period.

During this period, Amtrak says it will install 43 track miles of rail, replacing nearly 100% of rail on the route. It will also install 113,000 concrete ties, and clean and refresh 226,500 feet of gravel track bed to support the track structure and improve drainage.

Passengers should check Amtrak.com or the Amtrak mobile app for the latest schedules.
