DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Wednesday is one of the busiest travel days of the year, as millions are hitting the airports and roads to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends.
FOX43 spoke with travelers making their way through Harrisburg International Airport on Wednesday who said it was smooth sailing.
“We’re visiting grandma! [My son] is visiting his great grandma for Thanksgiving so we flew in to see her," said Cameron Brown, who arrived at HIA with her husband Chris, and their son Samson. "We’ve been really lucky…it’s been as smooth as we could have hoped for.”
A spokesperson for HIA said they're expecting a five percent increase in Thanksgiving travel from 2022.
“We’re going to Lancaster to Amish country and visiting family from Scranton and the northeast," said Chris Murphy.
“The Murphy Clan," as Chris refers to his family of five, are here from Charleston, SC for the holiday.
“This is the first time in five years [we've been able to see this family] so we’re very excited and we’re going to have all the Thanksgiving fixings, classic meal then be back home Friday to start real life again," he said.
Millions will be traveling across the country over the next few days.
TSA estimates it will screen 2.7 million passengers on Wednesday alone.
“It’s a huge travel day," said Murphy. "[We] started off early, it was dark, got up about 4:30 a.m. and then got to the airport, got some coffee and [we're] good to go”
Those who spoke with FOX43 were not having any issues getting through HIA.
“We were relieved to see no line when we walked up," said Bridgette Eckerson.
Bridgette and her family were headed back to Atlanta, GA on Wednesday, after spending time in Pennsylvania with family.
“We actually traveled out of Harrisburg because we thought it would be easier to go from Harrisburg to Atlanta where Atlanta will probably be crazy, Harrisburg doesn’t appear to be too crowded yet," said her husband, Will.
HIA expects around 26,000 passengers to fly into and out of the airport between Tuesday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Nov. 27.
