What to expect for last-minute Thanksgiving flyers

The busiest hours of travel for the remainder of Thanksgiving Eve will be until roughly 6 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 1 as people return home.

BALTIMORE, Maryland — Families are getting ready to celebrate the holidays and the days before Thanksgiving are expected to be one of the busiest travel days- by car or plane.

According to a recent report, BWI is the number one airport in the country with the most delays. But as of 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, FlightView says the airport had less than 20% of departures marked as "late or very late."

“This morning, the push went through relatively easily and things are going smoothly right now and we expect that to be the case for the rest of the holiday travel period,” said Ricky Smith, the executive director and CEO of BWI.

Travel experts say you want to arrive at the airport about two hours early. However, one traveler says that he arrived five hours early.

"I'm going to Chicago. I'm going to see my 10-day-old granddaughter, and I just can't wait. I already sent her the greatest chips in the world, so we sent them by UPS, but I'm flying up and I can not wait,” said David Kottler from Silver Spring, Maryland.

AAA predicts more than 100,000 people will fly to their destination this week. The busiest hours of travel for the remainder of Thanksgiving Eve will be until roughly 6 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 1 as people return home.
