HERSHEY, Pa. — This week is National Travel and Tourism Week, and while many get ready to head out the door on vacations, small business owners, theme park staff, and more get ready to welcome them in.
Visit Hershey and Harrisburg travel experts say that the tourism industry gives visitors new experiences and drives economic growth in Dauphin County.
“Here in Dauphin County, tourism's economic impact is 2.6 billion dollars,” said Allison Rohrbaugh, the director of communications & content for Visit Hershey & Harrisburg. "Tourism supports 26,000 jobs, so it has an impact on the community and a way of life.”
Pennsylvania’s tourism industry accounts for $76.7 billion in total economic impact. Rohrbaugh said that Dauphin County has many things to offer for both tourists and locals. A few events hosted in the past have been the Sweet Treats Trail and coming up this weekend the Harrisburg Artsfest.
“No matter who you are no matter what age you are no matter what interest you have the tourism industry, and Dauphin County is here to welcome you and support your stay,” said Rohrbaugh.
