Underground exploration at the Indian Echo Caverns | Travel Smart

Take an adventure more than 100 feet underground in the caves of Dauphin County.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Indian Echo Caverns in Derry Township is giving people a unique underground adventure more than 100 feet below the ground in the caves of Dauphin County.

"You’re going to see a lot of cool stuff that you would never see," said Melinda Walker, a first-time visitor of Indian Echo Caverns. "You wouldn’t know it was here. You got to come see it."

On a 45-minute guided tour, visitors get an opportunity to explore the depths of one of central Pennsylvania’s most beautiful caves that are not only memorable but filled with history.

"You come for fun, but you get education as well," said Suzanne Fisher, the operations manager at Indian Echo Caverns.

"I love this kind of stuff, I soak this stuff in. I love interesting tidbits of knowledge and I learned a lot here," said Walker.

The caves are also a perfect stop to escape the summer heat.

"It’s 52 degrees [in the caves]. So, it feels amazing," said Fisher.

On top of the cool caves that Indian Echo Caverns has to offer, there’s no shortage of other fun activities. The grounds also have a petting barnyard with alpacas, peacocks, goats and more as well as a gem mill to hunt for rare rocks.

Whether you spend just a couple hours or the entire day at Indian Echo Caverns, it will be an experience that will be hard to forget.

"When you come here and you actually experience it, completely different," said Fisher. "I want people going away going ‘I want to go see another cavern! Is there another cavern close to us?’ I want them leaving feeling like [it] was a wonderful family experience and [they'll] come back again."
