LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A Lancaster County holiday cookie tour is giving people the chance to try some unique Christmas treats, all while learning more about Amish culture.
The Amish Farm & House's Christmas Cookie Tour is in full swing during the festive season and will run every Friday and Saturday until the end of the year.
The tour takes you on a scenic journey through Lancaster County’s countryside while getting acquainted with three different Amish homes, complete with tasty homemade cookies.
At each stop, tour-goers will get to sample a wide range of cookies, take home samples and even purchase Amish goods.
"You’ve got everything from chocolate-covered whoopie pies to Santa’s specialties, and all different kinds of unique ones, that the Amish would make themselves. [They] are very traditional to Amish culture," said Devon Fite, a tour guide for The Amish Farm & House.
It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that places visitors into the average Amish life.
"It’s just a unique, beautiful experience to see all these women that are kind of in action in their homes," expressed Fite. "They are very humble, beautiful women that accept us into their homes and greet us with such beautiful hospitality."
On top of the three home visits, you also get a guided tour of a historic Amish farmhouse; it’s an educational journey you won’t forget.
"You’re going to get an understanding of this culture, and these people as a whole, when you’re traveling in their homes. It’s first-hand information from these ladies," said Fite.
Organizers of the cookie tour say that it's a journey family members of all ages can enjoy together.
"It’s something that grandma can do, as well as the little kids," said Fite. "Everybody loves cookies. Who doesn’t love cookies?"
After the tour concludes, the Amish Farm & House is sure that participants will be walking away full of holiday spirit, newfound knowledge and memories to last a lifetime.
"I [would] just love for you to have a belly full of cookies," said Fite. "There’s just nothing more wonderful than that this time of year."
