CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — The Shippensburg Borough Fire Chief announced Wednesday that a burn ban is in place on all outdoor burning until further notice, citing recent dry conditions.

The ban went into effect on Wednesday, July 17, according to the Shippensburg Police Department, and is in place for the protection of residences and properties inside the borough.

Under the ban, the Borough Fire Chief will not issue any burn permits until conditions improve.

Additionally, the use of recreational fires is prohibited until the ban is lifted.

Outdoor cooking on a grill or other covered device is still allowed, supervisors said.

Anyone who violates the order will be committing a summary offense, officials said. Upon conviction, violators can be sentenced to pay a fine of anywhere between $100 - $1,000.
