The community, including residents like Doris and Rob Ulsh, is currently in the process of recovering from the extensive damage caused by the natural disaster.

The tornado wreaked havoc across the neighborhood, as evidenced by the sight of two trees uprooted in front of the Bellevue Community House. Harrisburg City officials are actively engaged in implementing recovery efforts, while neighbors continue to grapple with the traumatic experience.

The Ulshes, long-time residents of the area, recounted the harrowing experience of the storm, describing the sound as akin to a freight train barreling through.

“We’re like what was that and then the tree hit the house and then we’re like ‘Oh, okay, yeah,’” said Doris.

The tornado left a trail of destruction, causing damage to roofs, windows, garages, and other structures in Bellevue Park. Residents reported that a neighbor's house was even struck by a fallen tree, forcing them to relocate.

Jane Thompson, another resident, expressed her shock and devastation, describing the scene as the worst she had witnessed.

Meanwhile, the Ulshs are confronted with extensive damage to their property, particularly to their back roof and sun porch.

“It used to be a couple of rays and the sun coming in from the East in the morning, now it’s just wide open, laughs It’s like there’s a spotlight on you when you walk in,” said Rob.

Harrisburg dispatched cleanup crews and tree service companies immediately following the tornado. Residents commended the swift response of these teams, illustrating a sense of community and support during such challenging times.

The Pennsylvania Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (PVOAD) and Crisis Cleanup set up a call center to streamline recovery efforts and have been working tirelessly in the aftermath of the tornado.

“They were here before daylight the day of the tornado and they’ve been here ever since, they’re helping neighbors clean up they come into your yard to help you if you need it,” said Doris.

Thompson added, “They said if we dragged it from the curb they would pick up and they have and they’ve been doing a great job really since day one.”
