YORK COUNTY, Pa. — The York County Coalition on Homelessness is spreading awareness about resources available to those without a home as snow falls and temperatures plummet.
Both day and overnight shelters are open.
Overnight shelters
Hanover: Contact the Hanover Area Council of Churches Changing Lives Shelter at 717-633-1992. Changing Lives provides both singles and household shelter.
York: Contact LifePath Christian Ministries at 717-472-8911. This hotline will provide shelter registration for both LifePath Christian Ministries and Children's Aid Society Southern Pennsylvania District's York C.A.R.E.S. church-based Code Blue as overflow space when LifePath becomes full.
LifePath provides both singles and and household shelter (for Code Blue, LifePath can accommodate men with children as well as women with children). York C.A.R.E.S. provides singles shelter only.
Day shelters
LifePath Christian Ministries will be modifying the Code Blue day process for the week of Monday, Jan. 15 thru and including Sunday, Jan. 21, officials said.
For these days, Code Blue emergency shelter guests of LifePath will be permitted to remain indoors 24 hours a day.
LifePath's warming station for the public that is normally 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. daily is being extended during these days to 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 367 W. Market St. in York.
Friends & Neighbors of Pennsylvania, Inc. says The Beacon (formerly The Coffee Spot) is also open this week, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:30 - 3 p.m. for day shelter resources. The Beacon is hosted at Union Lutheran Church, located at 408 W. Market St. in York.
In Hanover, Dillsburg, Dover and Redland, New Hope Ministries in Pennsylvania also offers day shelter/warming station support at their Centers. Those in need can check their page for correct contact information for each center.
