NOAA 2023-2024 Winter Outlook | Here's what to expect in the northeast

A better chance for slightly above-average precipitation looks likely along the East Coast.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — NOAA's U.S. Winter Outlook was released today with the help of the Climate Prediction Center.

This year, the Winter Outlook favors warmer-than-average temperatures across the Northern Tier of the U.S. and much of the northeast, including the state of Pennsylvania.

With that being said, the highest chance for warmer-than-average temperatures will be for northern New England, Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

When it comes to precipitation chances, central Pa. is favoring equal chances for above, near or below precipitation.

A better chance for slightly above precipitation looks likely along the East Coast with even better odds further south in Florida and along the Gulf Coast and Southeast coast. Drier than normal conditions are forecast along the northern tier of the U.S., including the Great Lakes Region.

The U.S. Seasonal Drought Outlook is forecast to improve with pretty much of all Pennsylvania looking at no drought.

El Niño will play a role in this year's winter outlook; this is the first time in four years that we have had the pattern influence the forecast.
