YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Officials are urging safety and sensibility ahead of forecasted storms and Tropical Storm Debby, which is expected to move up the East Coast this weekend.
The City of York's Stormwater Department brought attention to the incoming severe weather to the attention of residents and businesses.
There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms containing torrential downpours and high winds. Residents have been asked to check their properties and secure anything that may blow away.
Additionally, residents are encouraged to check their nearest storm drain and ensure that it is clean of trash, leaves, grass and other debris. It's important to keep storm drains clean so that stormwater can effectively drain.
Tropical Storm Debby is also expected to move up the East Coast in the next few days, potentially bringing even more heavy rain and winds.
Public works staff in York County are working to ensure that the stormwater system is working to the best of its ability given it is hundreds of years old. There are over 2,400 inlets in the City of York and with the help of citizens they can be checked and cleaned.
The public has also been asked to keep grass clippings out of the streets and gutters.
