DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Thousands of people in central Pennsylvania were still without power Tuesday night, after overnight winter weather.
"My TV went off and everything went off and I’m like ‘What happened?’" resident Justin Robertson said. "We heard the bang and I was like 'Oh man.' So I got up to look and that’s when I saw the tree sitting on the house."
Met-Ed spokesperson Todd Meyers says this storm was different from previous rounds of winter weather this season.
"It’s that wet heavy snow, good for snowballs," Meyers said. "Unfortunately it also encases limbs and causes them to break and come down on wires."
This led to more widespread damage across the area, more work for utility crews and more time for some customers to wait.
"People look and they see the sun and they say ‘Why is the power still out?’" Meyers said. "It's because the damage happened earlier but that doesn’t mean that it’s all been repaired yet."
Meyers says crews will be working around the clock, prioritizing the outages impacting larger numbers of customers first.
"I would not be surprised to see some customers out into tomorrow," he said.
As for when the power will come back on for those customers, Meyers and a spokeswoman from PPL say they are updating estimated restoration times as the damage is assessed.
