YORK COUNTY, Pa. — The York County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is asking County residents to report any property damage that resulted from heavy storms on Tuesday night, Aug. 6.

The storms brought power outages and expected flooding to many regions of central Pennsylvania.

Storm damage reports from residents help the York County Office of Emergency Management to assess the severity of the storm and provide information to the National Weather Service. This information helps disaster managers get an immediate Countywide damage "picture" within hours of a disaster event to help prioritize response efforts, officials said.

Once the severe weather is over and it is safe to venture outside, residents are asked to take notes and pictures of the damage before beginning cleanup and repairs. Homeowners are also recommended to save receipts for any materials and repairs.

OEM stressed that filling out the form does not guarantee that funding or assistance will be provided. County staff may contact residents to ask questions or to follow up for more information. If an incident receives a Presidential disaster declaration, homeowners may be asked to fill out required paperwork from assisting agencies, should they request assistance from them.

This is a damage reporting tool, not a means of requesting help, emergency services or applying for any type of financial assistance. Those who need immediate assistance to protect life and/or property are advised to call 911.

Residents only need to submit the information once. Anyone who needs assistance completing this form can contact the York County OEM at 717-840-2990 during regular business hours, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The form can be found online.
