Thousands without power following evening storms across central Pa.

Thousands are without power across central Pennsylvania after thunderstorms rolled through on Tuesday evening.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Update, 12:45 p.m. (July 17): York Area United Fire and Rescue announced it is opening a cooling station for residents of Manchester, Springettsbury and Spring Garden townships who may still be without power. The cooling station will be located at 3118 N. George St. in Emigsville, and will open at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

"The station will initially be manned by volunteers from the fire department," the fire company said. "The local chapter of the American Red Cross has been contacted and is delivering water and cots."

Update, 11:30 a.m. (July 17): A PPL Electric representative said its customers in Lancaster County affected by the outage should expect to have power restored between 3-11 p.m.

"Crews are working around the clock until all customers are restored," the representative told FOX43. "We're also preparing for our third consecutive night of thunderstorms and making sure we're staffed and ready to respond to additional outages. We have crews staffed 24/7 until all customers are restored."

According to the Met-Ed Outage map, nearly 10,000 customers in parts of York and Adams Counties are without power. The map shows that just under 1,400 customers in Hanover Borough and around 1,000 in Springettsbury and Hellam Townships are affected by the outage

According to the PPL Outage map, about 1,700 customers are without power in Lancaster County. Some customers can expect power to be restored by 3 p.m. on July 17, according to the map, but some may have to wait until 11 p.m.
