Flooding and severe weather risk Sunday | Weather Impact Alert

The FOX43 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert from 2 P.M. to 10 P.M. on Sunday. Isolated storms could bring flooding and damaging wind gusts.

The FOX43 Weather Impact Team says Sunday is a Weather Impact Alert day.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Updated 10:50 PM 08/18/2024: The Weather Impact Alert Day has ended and all watches and warnings have expired. 

Previous: The FOX43 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert from 2 P.M. to 10 P.M. Sunday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms may turn strong to severe during the afternoon. Storms may produce torrential downpours that lead to areas of flooding, damaging winds, and the chance for hail. A brief, isolated spin-up tornado may also be possible. 

In preparation, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch continues for the area highlighted through 10 PM.

The National Weather Service has also issued a FLOOD WATCH for most of the area due to the flash and regular flood threat mentioned.

The flooding threat includes the entire area, but the risk is highest along the eastern two-thirds of Central Pa. This includes much of Juniata, Perry, and Cumberland counties, along with all of Adams, Dauphin, Lebanon, Lancaster, and York counties. A FLOOD WATCH is in effect for all except Franklin County until midnight on Monday. Storms are expected to be hit-or-miss, but commuters should slow down, pull over if necessary, and avoid any flooded roadways if excessive rain falls.

Some storms could produce isolated areas of flooding and isolated damaging wind gusts on Sunday.

Areas east of Harrisburg have been upgraded to a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather threat. It’s a lower, level 1 out of 5 threat for the rest of the area.
