HARRISBURG, Pa. — The FOX43 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert Day today for isolated damaging wind gusts, flash flooding, and the continued heat wave. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been issued for the eastern half of our area until 9 P.M., and there's also a FLOOD WATCH for the entire area until 10 P.M. this evening. High heat and humidity make temperatures feel like triple digits again. Today marks day 4 of the current heatwave, and it’s expected to continue through early Saturday evening.
A small portion of our area has been upgraded to a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk for isolated damaging winds. This includes parts of York and Lancaster counties. Intense downpours could also lead to isolated areas of flash flooding. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely until 10pm, so this is our window for the isolated flooding threat. High humidity helps produce the torrential rain threat. The isolated damaging wind threat has a slightly shorter window, lasting until 9pm. Showers and storms should start to die off between dinnertime and sunset.
Because of the high heat index, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory until 8 pm Saturday. During that time, it's important to stay cool as best as possible. If you must be outside, make sure you're taking frequent breaks and staying hydrated. You can also stay cool by wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
Sunday will break the heat wave with temperatures dropping back into the upper 80s. Scattered afternoon showers and storms are expected and could produce isolated areas of flooding again. However, there is currently no severe weather threat.
