Scammers have been calling residents and businesses, purporting themselves to be a utility company and threatening to shut off service. Then the scammers try to get confidential information, like birth dates and Social Security Numbers as part of a payment plan to save the customers’ service. Police advise consumers to NOT to give callers any personal information of the phone and to you receive a similar call DO NOT relay any of your personal information over the phone and contact the utility company ASAP, if you receive such a call.
