Man Fires ‘Warning Shot’ During Domestic Dispute

A Mechanicsburg man is in prison this morning on charges he fired a handgun during an argument with a family member. It happened around 1:20am on the 2400 block of South Market Street in Upper Allen Township. William Barlup, 42, had been arguing with another family member in his residence when he allegedly got out his 9mm handgun and fired a “warning shot” into a wall inside the house. The other person ran to a nearby neighborhood and called police. Barlup was arrested on charges of Simple Assault by Physical Menace, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Harassment. His gun was seized.

He is currently in Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date at Magisterial District Judge Knepper’s office.
