For the second time in three weeks a suicidal man has died after jumping off the parking garage at York Hospital. The unidentified 77-year-old victim leapt off the roof  around 4:10 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

The victim was not a WellSpan employee or  patient at York Hospital, said Barry Sparks a spokesman for York Hospital.

Just three weeks earlier, a 49-year-old man committed suicide after jumping from the very same parking garage on Jan. 7.

Both victims died of multiple blunt force trauma, according to the coroner’s office.

The hospital issued this statement today regarding the suicides:

“WellSpan is deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Hospital administrators are currently reviewing all options to prevent similar incidents in the future.”

York Hospital security officers are patrolling the garage 24/7  and paying close attention to the upper levels, said Sparks.

Earlier this month York City police were able to talk a man down who threatened to jump off a four-story parking garage on West Philadelphia Street.

If you are contemplating suicide or know someone who is thinking about suicide, York Hospital has a crisis hotline that can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 717-851-5320.
