Players are hit the court showing off their free throwing abilities to help children battling Leukemia.  The Fourth Annual “Shooting for Smiles” basketball shoot-a-thon benefiting the Miranda K. Zeigler Memorial Foundation, also known as “Miranda’s Smile,” was held on Saturday, in the Northern High School Gym.

Members of the Northern Polar Bears Boys’ Basketball teams from Seventh Grade through Varsity are raising money to support the foundation, which was established by the parents of the late Miranda Zeigler.  A record $7,200 was raised at last year’s event in memory of Miranda, who would have been a member of the 2012 Northern High School Senior Class.

The players participated in a free throw shoot-a-thon with the top two players from each grade having a shoot-off to determine the top shooter.

Miranda’s parents, Tammi and Jeff Zeigler, established the foundation to raise money to benefit other youths who battle leukemia and related diseases at Penn State Hershey’s Children’s Hospital.  Miranda lost her battle with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia there on January 30, 2009, less than six months after being diagnosed.
