Today, U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will allocate $47 million throughout Pennsylvania to help local communities to recover from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
“The recovery process from Irene and Lee has been challenging, but this funding is a positive development in Pennsylvania’s effort to rebuild from the damage,” said Senator Casey. “As Pennsylvania’s communities work hard to strengthen their economies, these resources will help ensure that the damage from the floods does not hold back their progress.”
“The impact of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee devastated large portions of Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania,” said Senator Toomey. “I witnessed some of the devastation myself. Considering the substantial toll these storms took on Pennsylvania families, homes, schools and businesses, it is good to see the rebuilding process moving forward and people’s lives returning to normal.”
HUD is allocating $29,986,000 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to support long-term recovery activities in the hardest-hit areas following Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. In addition, Luzerne County will receive $9,763,000 and Dauphin County will receive $7,632,000 directly from HUD.
