It will soon be illegal not to own a gun, at least, in one Georgia town. City Council members in Nelson, Georgia passed the Family Protection Ordinance on Monday. It requires heads of households to have a firearm or ammunition. There are exceptions for convicted felons, people with physical or mental disabilities and for those who oppose guns for religious reasons. Council member Edith Portillo says it will make the town safe.

“ If anything should happen that they would need to use a firearm, they are backed up by their government, their city government,” says Portillo

The law goes into effect in ten days. Nelson is the second city in Georgia to pass such an ordinance.
