Rabid cat found in Adams County community park

A woman walking her dog came upon a rabid cat Tuesday at Oakside Community Park in Biglerville, Adams County.  The cat growled and snapped at the her dog. SPCA Humane Officer Abby Avery said the cat tested positive for rabies.  Rabies is a deadly virus that attacks the central nervous system and causes acute encephalitis.  It is incurable and is nearly always fatal.

Because the affected cat was found in a public park, Avery warns that people should be caution approaching any animal they don’t know or is acting strangely.

The Adams County SPCA will hold a rabies clinic at the animal shelter at 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg from Noon until 3 pm on June 30.  Rabies vaccines and Microchips for dogs and cats over 3 months of age will be offered. The cost of a rabies shot is $10.  For more on the York County SPCA click here.
