A New Freedom man is charged with driving his riding mower drunk on the streets of the borough and assaulting a woman. Police say Jerome Carl Foltz, 56, of Revere Drive, New Freedom, was locked out of his own home because he was intoxicated. Foltz allegedly tried to kick the door in and cut the screen door with a knife to get back inside his home. Unable to get back in, he began his ill-advised excursion on the riding tractor.
A caller reported Foltz was driving the mower on North Second Street, near Pleasant Avenue around 7:41pm. The caller also reported Foltz kicked her car and punched her in the head.
Police say Foltz was impaired and uncooperative with officers, and was yelling obscene language in the street. Upon his arrest, Foltz head butted the cage partition in the police cruiser, causing a cut on his face. He was taken to the hospital, where he remained uncooperative and yelled out racial slurs.
Foltz was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, drivers required to be licensed, simple assault, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, harassment, and operation of unregistered vehicle. He is in York County Prison in Lieu of $5000 bail.
